"Nobody knows Indian roads better"

Worst off road SUVs that shouldn’t have been made

Cars, big or small, have always known to be a combination of a style statement along with the primary purpose of transporting people from one place to another. Now if you want to own a vehicle that has power and the ability to take you to the roughest terrains, there’s no better choice than an off-road SUV. Although most SUVs, known for their power and on-road stability, may cost you more than a sedan or a hatchback depending on the make, usually don’t compromise much on performance. However, SUVs also have a reputation of being fuel-guzzlers and this can be expensive in the long run. Besides, maintenance is not that cheap either. We’ve listed down 10 of the worst off-road SUVs that should not have been made in the first place.

1. Volvo XC70

There’s no doubt that the XC70 is a powerful and comfortable SUV, but it also has its negative features. First of all, repair costs can be very expensive compared to many other competing models. Secondly, the Volvo XC70 does not offer the most spacious rear-seat room even with improvements made from earlier versions. Moreover, there are many other crossover SUVs that produce better overall performance than the Volvo XC70 for around the same price.

2. Land Rover Discovery

Not really the most reliable SUV to be manufactured, the Discovery fails to impress in terms of safety, versatility, cargo space and interior ergonomics. Besides, the Land Rover is also popular for its frequent visits to the workshop due to breakdowns and other performance-related issues.

3. Mercedes-Benz M-Class (First generation)

The first generation Mercedes-Benz M-Class was one of the first midsize luxury SUVs to capture the market because of its then power and luxury. However, the first generation M-Class saw many of its crossover SUV rivals race ahead mainly because of the newer features and lower-costs. Besides, the first generation model was seen as a vehicle that was expensive to repair and its extensive quality-controls were known to have caused some problems to M-Class owners.

4. 2000 LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER

The 2000 Range Rover does have several flaws which is why it has made it to this list. For its features, at $50,000, it’s a little too pricey for most people to afford. Handling is not great either. The 2000 Range Rover does not offer the smoothest driving experience and does not serve too well as a utility vehicle.

5. Cherokee 2001

One of the major problems with this model is, however, the fact that comfort has been entirely compromised on with small rear seats. If you’re going on a long journey out of town, you can’t expect such a smooth and comfortable drive. Entering and exiting the vehicle is also difficult while the design of the vehicle is not that great either.

6. Touareg 2000

At $50,000, it’s a little too expensive for middle-class people and most would not be willing to spend that much money on an SUV that could probably offer less than what some other luxury vehicles might be able to. To add to that, there’s the problem of a somewhat stiff ride that does not make it a very comfortable vehicle, especially for long drives. The Touareg 2000 is another off-road SUV that fails to impress.

7. Audi A6 Allroad

The Audi A6 Allroad was one of the first off road vehicles to be introduced by the company. While it makes for a comfortable and smooth ride on-road, it does not serve well off-road, thereby contradicting the label it’s been given. No wonder, the vehicle failed to make an impact and saw very few interested buyers.

8. Jeep Patriot 2007

The Jeep Patriot 2007's drawbacks, however, are the fact that acceleration is not great while the interiors loom somewhat cheap. Cargo capacity is also not too much so if you’re planning that picnic out with your family, you might want to cut down on the number of items to carry.

9. Jeep Wrangler

The Jeep Wrangler is a perfect outdoor car that has off-road capabilities. However, apart from the fact that it’s a great off-road vehicle, there really isn’t anything else to brag about. Handling and braking is very rusty while the ride is not smooth by any means. Besides, it is a noisy SUV that will burn a hole in your pocket thanks to its gluttony in consuming fuel.

10. Hummer H3

Apart from the interiors and cargo room space, the Hummer H3 is one SUV that really should not have been manufactured in the first place. It flops completely in terms of highway acceleration, handling while fuel consumption is very high. The rear seats are also extremely uncomfortable. There are tons of other vehicles that would be a better buy than the Hummer H3.
