Created by Paulo Konno for the College for Creative Studies, the Chevrolet YOU is an eMobility solution for the BRIC countries for the year 2025. Today, the Chevrolet brand has expanded its reach beyond the American auto sector and into global market. But the vehicles it produces still respond primarily to an American way of living. Auto industry production figures collected by Autodata Corp for the year 2010 suggest that china produces 17,000,000 indigenous vehicle each year while India produces 2,800,00 units annually. Chinese and Indian brands thus stand to be major competitors to Chevrolet’s cars by the year 2025 and the company has to embrace different cutlers and values and create vehicle that respond the needs of people in these parts of the world to stay competitive in these markets. Chevrolet YOU Concept vehicle is targeted primarily at consumers in China and other big emerging car markets like India, Russia and Brazil.

The development of a strategy for creating a visual DNA for the Chevrolet brand in these locales is the primary focus of this project which seeks to promote unique Chevrolet branding and performance. With key concepts like multi-functionality, boldness, balance, flexibility, simplicity and dependability allowing the form of the car to follow its function, the concept seeks to determine an aesthetic design for the Chevrolet YOU while maintaining the solid American ideals of automobile manufacturing basis behind it.
Meant to be an all terrain crossover vehicle, the Chevrolet YOU is aimed at consumers who can only afford one vehicle (i.e., buyers who are purchasing a vehicle for shared family use) would like to use in the city as well as the country side, which is a fairly common way of living in most countries like China and brazil. The Chevrolet YOU is an electric vehicle for two occupants with one in-hub engine assembled in each of its four exposed wheels. It features an adjustable suspension, a covered cargo bed with a tailgate which works as a water container and features a detachable cooler on each of the side doors. All these characteristics emphasize the functional aspect of this crossover which can be a two-door sedan for city driving during week days and an off-road pick up truck for outdoor adventures on weekends.
The cargo bed cover is made out of smart morph polymer with outer side hooks made of smart morph alloys to allow the vehicle to transition from city car to pickup mode with ease. The rear portion of the roof support expands up to enable second seating roll and this surface expansion can be adjusted to suit user needs depending on cargo size. The removable headlamp is also serves as a portable flash light while the front fender pops out to fashion two seats and little table.
