Bentley Continental GT3 Racecar Concept set to race in 2013

Just ahead of its debut at this year's edition of the Paris Auto Show, the Bentley Continental GT3 race car concept has been unveiled. The vehicle marks the return of the automaker to the racing circuit after a decade long hiatus. The Continental GT3 concept is based largely on the Bentley Continental GT Speed that was seen earlier this year, at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The vehicle came with a 800Nm/460kW powertrain mated to a four wheel drive platform. The new GT3 concept is more than likely to retain the same performance package albeit racing regulations will require the new vehicle to run on a rear wheel drive configuration.

A significant rear wing is among the numerous changes on the comprehensive aerodynamics package that the new vehicle will sport. Bentley Continental GT3 concept race car has already been approved for racing by FIA, motorsport’s ruling body, and comes with a British flag-inspired patriotic finish. Bentley has hinted that it intends of returning to motorsport by the end of next year with endurance testing events like the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The Continental GT3 had been in the works since the Continental GT was launched which means that Bentley has had all the time in the world to perfect the technological aspects of the concept racer. Whether it performs as well as its pedigree indicates, of course, would be seen when it takes to the motorsport arenas next year.
