BMW’s entry vehicle in the SUV segment, X5, was introduced in 1999 and was a big success. BMW launched it in India in 2007. The five-door, midsized luxury crossover SUV with robust looks, unmatchable performance, plush interiors, stunning exteriors and exquisite features is available in two variants - BMW X5 xDrive 30d diesel and BMW X5 xDrive 50i petrol. The diesel variant develops 245 ponies and 540 Nm of torque; whereas the petrol version takes the power tally forward to 407hp and 600Nm of torque. Both engines are mated to automatic transmission that sends power to all the wheels, enabling the SUV to go anywhere.

BMW's trademark kidney grille finds its place in the X5 as is tradition, with some extra width. The Xenon headlamps have a new design that is slightly cut off at the top which incorporates corona rings. Overall nose appearance is aggressive and very sporty.

BMW X5’s front fascia is adorned by a distinct body-coloured bumper with integrated fog lights, eagle-eyed xenon adaptive headlights with auto-leveling and the traditional twin-kidney grille with chrome-finished vertical slats. The lower side of the nose has got four air intakes including a larger rectangular honey comb cluster. Some exterior features standard on the X5 variants include intermittent rain-sensing windshield wipers, power outside mirrors, rear window wiper/washer, and roof rails. Power door locks, power windows, vehicle and key memory are also standard.

The X5 comes with standard split-folding rear seats; a third-row rear seat is offered as optional, which increases the seating capacity.
