Gone are the days when unveiling a new car simply meant that an important person from the executive branch of the auto company would come and simply lift a shiny cover off the vehicle. These days when more is less and companies hire publicity managers to ensure every press event is a roaring success, releasing a new vehicle becomes a spectacle that can be filled with any number of bedazzling extras that can range from pyrotechnics to barely clad models.

However, this Beijing-based design studio is looking to reinvent the way designers present their vehicles at exhibitions and auto expos. Ballistic Architecture Machine AKA BAM, the studio’s latest creation is called the 'Clamshell Carstand' which makes showcasing of cars nothing short of the revelation of an engagement ring to the object of one’s affection.
The exhibition structure is meant to be temporary though its spectacle is certainly dramatic. Cold cathode tubes recessed within the interior dramatically light up the inside of the clamshell which is covered in mirror-finish stainless steel to ensure the vehicle shines like a diamond. On the outside, the car stand is finished in matte purple paint which is quite reminiscent of a ring box.
The stand itself is made of a sturdy yet lightweight bamboo plywood frame that is CNC-cut to loosely resemble a clamshell. Though the makers intend it as an exhibition spectacle, we definitely see filthy rich guy using the clamshell car stand in dramatic, made-for-Hollywood proposals as well!
