Social networking site Facebook has played an important role in the development of many businesses with many companies across the globe using its popularity to do good business. Game developers Zynga became a household name with its hugely popular game Farmville only because of Facebook. But the growing popularity of this social networking behemoth however, failed to inspire the real world so far. It is, however, expected that things will change in the months to come with many auto makers gearing up to launch the Facebook inspired cars.

German automaker Porsche paid tribute to its one million Facebook fans by launching a 911 GT3 R Hybrid race car that has the names of its fans engraved on its body. Porsche said that the car has been designed especially to thank the customers and followers of the company’s page on Facebook. This car has the names of thousands of fans who liked Porsche on its profile page created by the luxury automaker on Facebook. This car will not be available for sale. Porsche has announced that it will keep the Facebook car in the Porsche Museum. This car also carries “Thank You. The Netherlands-based unit of Volkswagen will manufacture this vehicle, which the company will gift to a lucky fan for free. This car will not have a central console and touchscreen. Facebook’s popular 'poke' is assigned to the horn of this car, which will also have Facebook-themed 'privacy settings'.

The ‘Fanwagen Beetle’ is a Facebook-themed vehicles designed by the Netherlands-based unit of Volkswagen. This vehicle will be launched as part of an advertising campaign launched by the German manufacturer. This vehicle has been reinterpreted in order to incorporate ‘Facebook-related’ functionality. Poke has replaced horn in it and ‘Add Friends’ has replaced the door handles. The side doors of this car have a ‘Wall’ just like Facebook, which can be used by the users to leave ‘Posts’. This car will be given to one lucky fan, who will be selected after a lottery.
