Few things in the world are as potent a symbol of masculinity as a good power bike. As sexist as that sounds, it kinda is true and though we all would love to build green, sensible bikes that don’t harm the planet, monster bikes would always remain our guilty pleasure. Though most of us are happy crushing on body-kitted race bikes, there are a few people for whom a factory-made bike is not enough and they just have to get their hands dirty and come up with bizarre, astonishingly vulgar monster bikes of their own. Here’s a list of the top ten most shameless power bikes that we have come across so far.
1. Aston Martin V12 powered Monster bike
Thanks to its association with the Bond movies, Aston Martin got stamped as a snobby, upper class-only brand that just couldn’t get down and dirty even if it tried. This AM V12-powered Monster bike, however, would beg to differ with all the non-believers! Thumping out 425hp, this stunning bike is powered by Aston Martin’s 6-L V12 powerplant and costs EUR 98,000!
2. Big Toe Monster bike
3. Monster bike – An all terrain amphibious kinetic sculpture
Intended to be an entry at a kinetic sculpture race, this amphibious ATV-slash-kinetic sculpture was engineered by Californian Peter Wagner. Bars on the rear wheel allow the bike to gather traction on slushy surfaces that the course of the race would follow and the bike is not recommended as an ideal vehicle for you to pick your kids up from school in!
4. Monsterbike: the modern-day penny farthing
5. Dodge Tomahawk bike
6. Dolmette
7. V12 powered Honda CBX
8. 2,950kg Monster Bike
Yet another bike that has made it into the Guinness Book of World Records is this Greg Dunham original that is apparently world’s tallest bike. At 11’ 3” tall, the bike is a little difficult to take on the road and traffic cops generally tend to pull it over a lot and slap hefty tickets all over it, but the US$300,000 monster bike still is a true gem. Running on a 500 horsepower 8.2 L engine slung together with a 2-speed transmission, the mammoth bike also weighs 2,950kg which means it has got to be a real bleep to parallel park!
9. Gun bus 410 Cubic Inch V
People told Clemens F. Reinhardt that he wouldn’t be able to fit the monster engine inside his outlandish bike’s frame. But where there is a welder ready to do the job for a heavy fee and thanks to everyone who believed in the project, the Gun bus 410 Cubic Inch V came into being. Running on a 45 degree fuel injected V-Twin displacing 6728 cc/410 cubic inches, the 31.5 inches tall bike weighs 1433 pounds and outputs 523 pounds per foot of torque.
