Though General Motors hasn’t exactly been the most famous brand in the recent past with Volkswagen and Mercedes-Benz stealing the limelight every single time, it hasn’t given up on the future. GM’s take on 'what the ideal future car should be like' has taken many a form and it won’t fail to surprise the automobile industry. Here is list of 10 concepts of future GM vehicles.
1. Pride, Laugh and Magic – the EN-V Concept
The Electric Network Vehicle (EN-V) happens to be the cutest and the one of the most revolutionary concepts that GM has managed to create. Unveiled at an auto show in Shanghai in 2010, this concept received applause, and only applause. An electric vehicle that seats two, the EN-V concept also aims at solving the traffic problem to quite an extent. It’s been made in three designs – Jiao (Pride), Miao (Laugh), and Xiao (Magic) – and is predicted to be the car of the future. GM also dares to think another step ahead by saying that the car may also have an auto-drive system. Truly futuristic, isn’t it?
2. The Vauxhall Lightning
The Vauxhall Lightning is GM’s take on building a sports car and the efforts aren’t in vain. The vehicle is to have a 240 HP V8 engine, with a long bonnet and a short back. Built in the classic sports car way, this roadster is set to impress everybody who gets to know about it. Now, why don’t you get something to keep that jaw from falling off?
3. The Mini Fighter
This car, that looks like a crossover between a Saturn and a Saab, could very well be GM's profit baby. Literally a concept on paper at this stage, this car is predicted to be priced at something close to $20,000 or so. Reports, however, state that the Mini Fighter will not be a car under Chevrolet.
4. The Hy-Wire Hydrogen Concept
This is again quite an advance concept that General Motors has staked its best on. Being a car run on hydrogen, it is to give you speeds of about 100 mph. In stead of a steering, it is to be controlled with the help of a hand yoke which we usually find in aircraft. The only problem might be the lack of steering precision and software errors, but those would be rectified in time.
5. The Cadillac EV Concept
For decades, the Cadillac has been everybody’s favorite luxury car. To add to the charm, General Motors now proposes to create an electric version of this beauty. Though no technical details were revealed, the only hopeful news that you can satisfy yourself with as of now is that this model will go into production in 2013, for an official unveiling in 2014.
6. The Chevrolet Volt Concept
Unveiled at the 2007 North American International Auto Show, this car promises to be one of the best hybrid vehicles around. Its batteries can be charged with a regular 110 V supply, which makes it feasible. For a journey of less than 40 miles, the car can run only on the battery. Once the distance increases, the IC engine charges the battery, hence producing minimal emissions.
7. The Alien Concept
Crazy as it may sound, GM has plans to build a car that happens to use alien technology. This car will be designed in a way that, during a ride, the body of the car levitates away from the chassis, hence making the journey smooth with no vibrations to worry about.

9. Autonomy
The Jetsons became popular because of its robots and flying cars, which the future is inclined towards even today. Though this concept doesn’t define any flying cars, it defines a car that drives by itself. This makes traffic and parking issues of the past and the future a welcome thing to look forward to. This concept is also supposed to grace the EN-V.
