American company, Dodge, had for many years produced vehicles that wowed audiences. The automobiles are now manufactured and marketed by the Chrysler Group LLC which has continued to roll out stunning models, all guaranteed to meet consumer satisfaction and expectations.

In the 1960s, Dodge designed a series of vehicles under the Charger models which continue to be manufactured till the present day, from roadsters to sedans with rear wheel drive. The 2011 Dodge Charger has been modeled on the Chargers of the 60s, however, with many enhancements and tweaks.
First look
The headlamps of the 2011 Charger are a little more slanted, complementing the crosshair grill. The interior has been revamped to meet aesthetics with upgraded materials, 3 spoke steering and Garmin navigation with Sirius Travel Link.
3 trims of the Charger are currently being marketed - Dodge Charger R/T, Dodge Charger SE and Dodge Charger R/T AWD. Equipped with a new Pentastar V6 engine, the all new Charger SE gives 292 horsepower which is 42 more than the previous model as well as 10 lb/ft higher torque at 260.
The R/T AWD, on the other hand, has a 5.7-liter V8 engine and front axle disconnect that comes as part of a segment-exclusive active transfer case. All 3 models come with redesigned front and rear suspension links, monotube shock absorbers and spring rates for a more comfortable ride. Steering becomes quicker too with the electro-hydraulic power steering (EHPS) system.
The machine
The Dodge Charger has remained one of the brand’s better concepts. The new 2011 model continues to carry its reputation across. Chrysler’s Hemi V8 engine gives it more power but if you’re looking for something a little less mean, then you can opt for the SE which runs on a V6. This 3.6-liter engine gives 292hp and 260 lb/ft of torque for a smooth and powerful ride.
Newly designed taillights make the car appear sleeker and lower, giving the illusion that is isn’t so big. For more power, you can choose the R/T model which runs on a V8 that gives 370hp and 395 lb/ft of torque. The R/T is set apart from the other 2 due to the fact that 4 of its 8 cylinders can shut down during a light throttle cruise, saving you fuel. A 5-speed manumatic transmission lets you choose between manual and automatic handling.
The SE comes in 3 packages – Rallye Plus with leather seats, 18-inch wheels, cooled and heated cupholders and an alarm; Rallye with audio and wireless cellphone link; and Enforcer with 20-inch blacked-out wheels, performance tires and suspension, upgraded audio and a black grille.
The R/T, meanwhile, has 18-inch wheels, fog lamps, performance suspension, tires and brakes, power heated exterior mirrors and a black grille. You can also choose from a Road and Track package that give you performance seats, HID headlamps, 3.06 rear-axle ratio and high-speed engine controller. The Super Track Pak gives drivers higher performance with 20-inch wheels, bigger front and rear stabilizer bars and high-performance brake linings. This package, however, isn’t available with the AWD model.
What’s good?
The 2011 sedan has a powerful engine which gives a smooth ride. As for fuel economy, it’s pretty good at 18mpg on city roads and 27mpg on highways. With some additional cash, you can have your model of choice fitted with different goodies like Garmin navigation system, power sunroof, amplifiers and power adjustable pedals.
What’s not so good?
Considering the Charger makes use of a Hemi engine, you only get a 5-speed transmission which is pretty low. Also, there is no Sport mode which means that you can’t harness the full potential of the engine.
Accessories
The earlier models of the Charger had some flaws in the interiors. But the 2011 model has been fitted with some upgraded interiors like an optional 8.4 inch touch screen and a navigation package that lists gas prices, movies real time weather updates. Space is ample and seating has been properly arranged.
Things to watch out for
Design wise, the 2011 Charger is similar in form to the models of the 60s, except that it is sportier and sleeker. 164 LEDs on the rear give it a distinct look and the overall exterior is 8 percent more aerodynamic. Look out for the revamped interior and good fuel economy.
Price and availability
The base sedan begins at a price of $25,395 while the R/T/AWD starts at $30,395. Additional accessories and packages start from $50 all the way to $5,000. All 3 trims are currently available in the United States.
The bottom line
Better performance, redesigned interior and exterior plus a host of packages to choose from make the 2011 Dodge Charger a fine choice for a family sedan. It’s reasonably priced too so you get your money’s worth.
