A fascinating sneak peek into BMW's new all electric i3 city car

The Sneak Peek:

Why should one of the most illustrious car manufacturers in the world BMW be left behind in the recent spurt of 'go green' trends? This all new, compact as well as zero emission, electric MPV, with BMW's sub brand 'i', aims to have a range of around 100 miles and a 0-62mph time of just 10 seconds. It has a rather conspicuous look with a somewhat raised body mass with low rolling resistance tires. The power-train is imbued in an aluminum chassis, with sturdy carbon fiber-reinforced plastic covering the frame.

This sporty car will be assembled at BMW’s £336million Leipzig plant in Germany and expected to be in the market by 2013. Though according to grapevine, its first public display will be in an equally eminent event - the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

First Take:

The i3 looks much distinct from other conventional BMW models, especially with its petite LED headlights. The wheels cover greater surface area with narrow cross-sections for easy and advanced aerodynamics.

Speculations:

The electric vehicle is expected to be completely emission free. The 134 horsepower electric motor, the hardy carbon fiber reinforced frame and the narrow low rolling resistance tires makes this car quite steadfast in its steer and stance. Furthermore, a range-extended version with better battery equipment could also be made available after the first launch.

Rumor Mill:

AutoExpress:

The venture capital company is intended to allow the use of BMW Group’s wealth of resources, while also allowing the ‘i’ firm to make faster investment decisions as technology progresses.
