Not that Acer have the same kind of brand appeal as a Fendi or Gucci, but the Ferrari special edition smartphone that they just launched is still as impressive as it gets. Dubbed the liquidmini, the Android-powered phone takes off where the Ferrari Edition Android-based Liquid E smartphone from Acer left it last year. The phone marks the current line up of the electronics giant’s Ferrari-branded series of products that will be expanded to include a whole bunch of Ferrari-stamped goodies like LCD displays and laptops.

Running on Android 2.3(Gingerbread), the liquidmini has an impressive 3.2” screen that has a lower resolution than the one given to the Liquid E, though the capacitive touch-laced 480x320 pixels HVGA screen is still relatively top end. Fitted with a 5mp camera on the rear, the phone does look a little archaic when compared to the standard smartphones out there that boast of decent front camera as well.
Standard communication features on the liquidmini Ferrari Edition include HSDPA support, GPS capabilities, Bluetooth 2.1 and Wi-Fi connectivity. On the inside, the phone boasts of an ARM 11 CPU that kicks out 600MHz and operates with 512MB RAM. Running on an Acer 4.2 user interface, the smartphone also has a micro SD card slot though an 8 GB memory stick comes with the purchase. The liquidmini also shaves off 30 grams from its predecessor weighing in at just 3.4 oz (105 grams).
The most obvious bit of Ferrari styling on phone remains the iconic red color used for the case that comes with a chrome trimming. Slightly curved at the back, the liquidmini is stamped with the Italian marquee’s prancing horse logo. Other auto-inspired features on the phone include Ferrari engine sounds as ringtones, Ferrari wallpapers, and other Ferrari-themed videos and images. And just to make sure die hard Ferrari fans never miss out on the latest buzz on their favorite Italian automaker, the phones comes preloaded with a special SocialJogger 2.0 app that gets Ferrari feeds from a multitude of sources include social networks such as Twitter and Facebook.
No word on the release date and retail price list for the special edition phone, but we can tell you that a special Ferrari-stamped Bluetooth headset with cool auto incoming call volume adjustment and echo and noise muffling features will be bundled with the phone.
