To mark the occasion of its 10th birthday, a team of Ariel employees has put together a copy of their upcoming Ariel Atom 500 V8 high performance car in a personal record of five hours and fifteen minutes. Ariel aims to outdo Bugatti's Veyron hypercar with V8-engined version of its minimalist Atom 3. The new machine unveiled this week has come out after two years of vigorous efforts and has a striking power-to-weight ratio of 909bhp per ton, which is approximately 50% better than Bugatti's creation.

Ariel Atom 500 V8 is a highly-anticipated ultra light-weight sports car and will be a limited edition as only 25 units will be made. The sports car is more like a super-bike with four wheels and will get power from a US-built, 3.0-liter, 32-valve Hartley V8 engine, originally developed from two Suzuki Hayabusa 1300cc superbike four-cylinder engines grafted together.
The engine will available in two options: 475bhp version intended for easy road use and a 500bhp race version with a much more aggressive throttle map and both will be having a top speed of 170mph and 200mph respectively. Power will be transferred to the wheels through a six-speed sequential Sadev gearbox and the single-seater car will race from 0-60mph in less than 2.5 sec.
Ariel Atom 500 V8 flaunts a gold chassis and wheels, a new carbon engine cover and twin side pods to contain ancillaries like oil radiator and air compressor, uses a near-standard Atom tubular chassis with extra bracing around the engine bay. The Atom V8 goes on sale early next year, priced at £150,000.
