It hasn't been a long time since Toyota was planning to develop its own automotive operating system to try and improve efficiency and safety, cut down the costs for software development and become pioneers in the competition.

But for now it seems that there has been a slight change of plans for the firm, the company has tagged up with nine other Japanese entrepreneurs to join forces with the Economy, Trade and the Industry Ministry to try and develop an operating system for automotive electronics.
With Toyota ofcourse you can also look for many other bigger players like Nissan, Honda, Denso and Toshiba teaming up for the joint venture. The step can be an outcome of parallel joint developments from various European car makers, which will aspire at global standards for the field.
A prototype version can be expected sometime around 2009, to reach for the competition.
