If a giant meteor collided into the earth right about now causing the entire human civilization to be buried under tonnes of debris only to be discovered by aliens a few centuries from now and they happened to chance upon this particular exhibit in their excavations, they’d be damn confused won’t they? Part of the "India Contemporary" exhibition in the GEM Museum of Contemporary Art in The Hague, the Netherlands, this series of skeletal vehicles is actually called Collindonthus and is done by Jitish Kallat.

We’re not sure whether the sculptures are supposed to indicate the impending death of motorized vehicles what with the ungodly oil prices and all, or whether they are supposed to symbolize the humanization, and resultant objectification, of things that have in fact become a part of our lives.
Made with resin bones, the sculptures are remarkable in the detail in which they present the skeletal remains, if you will, of vehicles that we ordinarily do not even notice as separate entities in the course of our lives. The pieces are striking in the way they juxtapose our need to humanize our creations with names and pronouns and connect with them emotionally with the need to treat such objects as mere disposable possessions.
The breathtaking sculptures could very well be the poster pieces for campaigns promoting awareness about global warming although we surely like them a lot better as thought-provoking post-modernist pieces that make us wanna discuss them with our friends on our wine-and-cheese evenings!
