Sneak peek
Chevrolet has been creating buzz on its much anticipated Malibu with a series of photos, renderings and bits of information. There were videos of the car spy photographer Jim Dunne pondering over the masked vehicle and the latest is a teaser featuring a 3D model hosted at watchthenewchevymalibuinhd.com.GM has announced to reveal the Malibu live in HD on the same site on April 18 at 8:30pm EST. The timing of the web reveal coincides with the April 19 auto show debut at the Shanghai motor show. One of GM’s highly successful product since 1964, the world waits eagerly for the 8th generation Malibu.

First Take
The bold lines of the rear revealed in the picture cement Chevrolet’s obsession with the sharp edges popularized by the Camaro and the Corvette. By sprucing up the width, the designers manage to make it look more firmly grounded and give it that broad shoulder look. There is dynamic surfacing on the hood as well as the sides that allows the car to reflect light in a manner that gives it an exciting feel. Chevy really needed to get rid of that plain-Jane look. It had others in its stable: the Impala for instance to serve that no-nonsense market. The new Malibu is indeed exciting and is expected to catch the eye of young buyers.
Speculations
Experts expect that GM will drop the traditional V-6 engine and offer a 4 cylinder in line setup instead. This strategic move draws inspiration from the success of a similar setup offered by the Hyundai Sonata, which in turn has proved to be a worthy competitor in this segment. The four cylinder motor mated with a six speed automatic transmission will manage a respectable fuel efficiency, something which is the crux of all Chevrolet cars. To add to the excitement, the cockpit will have multiple entertainment and communications options including Pandora, Stitcher, XM, MP3 and Bluetooth streaming support.
The Rumor mill
The company reckons that the Malibu has been designed keeping customers all around the world in mind. The Malibu is rumoured to have been undergoing testing in Europe as well. If these rumours are to be believed, it indicates that Malibu development story does not just stop at design and efficiency.
