"Nobody knows Indian roads better"

Compass Green is a Mobile Greenhouse on wheels

On wheels:

‘Go Green’ is the new-age slogan which also includes growing plants and vegetables. But with shrinking personal spaces it is not very much possible to have your own greenhouse. Proving this thought wrong is Fort Greene and his business partner, Justin Cutter who are both constructing a mobile greenhouse and that too in the back of an 18-foot diesel box truck. This proves that ingeniousness knows no bounds.

The duo will grow stuff in it and also to educate people plus students, will take it to various schools and all around the city. This is the best way to educate people about the methods and possibilities of farming even in small spaces. Both the creators have a farming background. Justin Cutter has worked on a bio-intensive mini farm in California. The farming method used here was placing plant into bed as against the traditional way of putting them in rows. This way the plants lie on top of each other and act like a mini ecosystem by holding necessary moisture and humidity.

On-board:

Compass green is a truck farm which is clear that it is a farm on a truck. Though the name can make anyone feel that just pile sand on your truck and start growing plants after seeding. But let me tell you imagination is much different than reality. The soil used in this case is a special mix of Styrofoam, gel, organics, and clay and has been kept light in weight. The 18-foot box truck will be powered by solar and wind energy. This greenhouse that is functional till the core will use vegetable oil to run. Plants won’t be denied sunshine, thanks to the Plexiglas windows. This renewable energy user will endow customers with the power to pluck vegetable with their own hands and be sure that they are actually fresh.

The highs:

Biointensive agriculture is being studied and adopted with open arms. The whole system supports plant life by connection all the basic elements i.e. sun, soil, water and air. Root growth, aeration of the soil and water retention is boosted by double-digging the soil till a 24 inch depth. Carbon-rich compost crops further aid in soil fertility that will ensure the growth of healthy crops. This is further taken care by adopting appropriate composting methods that helps in the growth of microorganisms near the roots of the plant which further improves the condition of plants. Compass Green is very practical in today’s space shrinking era. Inspiring others to do the same is a step forward n protecting our ever deteriorating environment.

Price and availability:

The truck can be yours after shelling $12,000. Wow! But hold on, if you want to take it out on the road then add an extra $4,000 to the above cost for registration, insurance, and inspection costs. If you think the expenses end here then read ahead. To swap the truck to run on waste vegetable oil another $4,000 are required plus purchasing and installing a .5 kilowatt solar panel system and a wind generator to power our electrical needs for the greenhouse will cost $5,500. Construction and materials like wood, plexiglass, and tools to build the green house will consume $1,200 plus another $300 for seeds, soil, and gardening tools.
