CycleKarting: Racing DIY cars, vintage style

Harsh Apr 16 2009

CycleKarting isn’t your run-of-the-mill racing. It is more like a refined sport where people participate for the sheer joy, not just for winning. CycleKarts are basically go-karts with styling borrowed from racers of the late 1930s. To take part in a race you have to build yourself a CycleKart that doesn’t weigh more than 200lbs and doesn’t cost more than $1750. Maximum dimensions are fixed at 98" by 40", the kart is powered by a 200 cc, 6.5 HP Honda motor that supplies power to the rear wheels via a CVT.

To keep the racing a good-natured fun event, CycleKarting clubs are invite only. That ensures the sport retains its true form, the way it is intended to be, and the ultra-competitive high horsepower types are kept out. As their line goes: Capt. Archie says: “You can’t beat fun!”
