Dead man caught speeding, sent to prison

Harsh Jan 23 2008

A UK man had devised an ingenious plan to speed along the roads without ever having to pay a single fine and possibly a chance to become the protagonist of a ghost story. Enforcement agencies with their huge army of cameras caught Shafkat Munir for speeding thrice, then to give the story a different twist, a man called Rashid Hussain showed up and claimed that Munir had died in Pakistan years ago. He attached a death-certificate in Urdu to substantiate his claim.

As it turned out, someone in the Parking Office didn’t quite buy the idea of a dead man speeding on the roads. Or probably, they wanted to call an exorcist. Inaccuracies were found in the certificate and Munir was eventually arrested. He admitted perverting the course of justice and will now spend 12 months in prison and a driving ban.
