DIY single-wheel self balancing skateboard

John saw some of the one-wheeled skateboards on the net and decided to have a go at the one-wheeled rollers himself. Based on the Segway self-balancing principles, the board uses the fearsome powers of a gyroscope to stay balanced. The skateboard also has Atmel ATmega32 microcontroller, accelerometer and batteries to complete the self-balancing act.

If he starts to lose balance, the gyroscope notices that and kicks in the motor to bring the skateboard back to balance. This is an interesting project, with slight steampunkish looks.
