Ecotricity’s ‘wind powered’ electric sportscar right on track

Ecotricity appears to be on the right-track towards its aim of creating a zero-emission electric sportscar. Its makers like to call it a “wind powered” electric sportscar, which simply means that they power its batteries through electricity generated by wind farms. Built off a Lotus Exige bought on eBay, the car uses 96 lithium-ion batteries and two brushless motors for some great performance specs.

The yet unnamed car is claimed to touch the 62mph mark from a standing start in under four seconds, and the company’s founder Dale Vince claims technology-wise, the car “is way ahead of Tesla, and F1 technology,” which seems to be a lot of boasting, especially around the F1 part. What is remarkable is that the development has cost only £200,000. Ecotricity hopes to complete testing in a few months and have a limited edition model in the market by the end of the year.
