"Nobody knows Indian roads better"

Fly in the Hunky-dory M200G Flying Saucer car

This ain't any Jetson's ride; it is called the M 200G, better known as the 'Flying saucer'. Moller International California has developed a Vertical Take Off and Landing (VTOL) vehicle branded as the M 200G or Volantor which can hover up to 10 feet from the ground, the maximum for an unlicensed pilot. The company is aiming to build 250 production models per year to go on sale in a few months. Company representatives say it is easy to operate, with plenty of leg room and space for a passenger.

Until now, scientists have been hard at work for more than four decades. It is the brainchild of Dr Paul Moller, an aeronautics engineer who foresees a 'Highway in the sky' which he consider could cut conventional commuter traffic in half.

Dr. Moller said:

Look at the sky above us - how many aircraft do you see? It's a great space that is not being utilized. That is what we plan to use. Cars are finished as a means of getting around. It's only a matter of time.

The flying saucer is powered by mammoth eight engines which can run on petrol, diesel or even ethanol. The M 200G Volantor has completed over two hundred successful test flights and could prove useful to rescue teams as well as landowners.

Moller International is yet to get recognition from the Federal Aviation Administration or the Department of Transport for its authorized exercise. The company sees the flying saucer as a predecessor to the M400, also known as the 'Skycar' which can be driven on the road as well as flown through the sky. At present, it is offering an M400 for sale on its website at between $500,000 and $1million, depending on how many orders it receives.

Dr. Moller said the Skycar could be in making within six years or so with a promise of a vehicle capable of climbing 6,000ft a minute and traveling at up to 400 miles an hour.

The ingress of the flying cars is extremely anticipated. The cars soaring in the skies are no longer a matter of science-fiction movies; in fact the Skycar reveals the verity of mind's eye becoming reality.
