A common practice among auto lovers and auto writers is to refer to muscle cars as beasts with the bull and most members of the feline species dominating the adjectives associated with these performance-orientated automobiles. But we’ve hardly ever come across a concept that was named after- and draws inspiration from- dragons! Yes, you read that right, dragons. I mean we’ve had the Batmobile and God knows we love it too, but the dragon car seems a tough concept to reconcile one’s mind to unless one makes major concessions on the willing suspension of disbelief front. That is of course until you’ve had a closer look at this gem of a concept created by Persian designer Mohammad Reza Khosravi. Sure the theme is a little on the Gothic side, but the final product is stunning at the very least!

One of the stylistic highlights of the Mercedes Benz Dragon Gullwing concept car is the use of gullwing doors which are shaped like the wings of a dragon. And although the mythological creature is hardly the poster child for luxury, the designer emphasizes that the concept car was created to be as luxuriant as possible in addition to being technologically advanced and simple in its lines at the same time. The dragon motif is unmistakably and unapologetically lavished all over the vehicle with the fingers of the moving and attacking dragon being reflected in the spokes of the alloys, and an eerie pair of dragon heads serving as the headlamps.
The interiors of the design have been created to mimic an artful statue done in stone and gold in the simplest way possible to prevent the cabin space from becoming obsolete in an ever changing industry. The interiors as well as the electronics used in the operation of the vehicle will all be upgradeable that would allow the users to simply upgrade the software to keep their vehicle from becoming obsolete. The chic-yet-toned-down interior of the concept features hidden electronic and mechanical components and allows routine fixtures like the key plug, the media console, the air conditioning and even the handles on the doors to remain hidden from view.
The specially created wheels of the concept also allow the users to more efficiently keep track of the performance of the car since the wheel has been designed in way that allows the driver maximum view of the dashboard. The dashboard itself will be carved out of stone, although we’re not sure how well that would fit in with the curb performance of the car.
Using an innovative touch projection system, the driver would be able to manipulate and view the control panel of the car in front of him without having to reach farther across the dashboard to access systems like night vision, in-car navigation and various other standard electronic gears. Since all the system information is provided right in front of the driver, the need to look away from the road for prolonged periods is reduced further cutting down the risk of accidents caused by distraction.
The designer intends for the electronic equipment used in the car to be lodged underneath the middle section of the car which allows seamless integration of the air conditioning and audio systems throughout the cabin maximizing their performance. Although the Dragon Gullwing concept car comes with a distinct Mercedes Benz branding, the designer is completely open to the idea of it being manufactured by any automobile brand and leaves the technical specifications of the engine and the drivetrain out and up to the imagination of the manufacturer.
