JLR showcases its first plug-in diesel hybrid at Geneva Motor Show 2011

Finally coming up with a better, energy efficient and low emission automobile at the Geneva Motor Show, the fully capable 4wd plug-in diesel hybrid by JLR (Jaguar Land Rover) is indeed a laudable achievement for the automaker. As the auto is owned by Tata, it was quite obvious that this brand would spring in a surprise for this year’s motor show.

The plug-in diesel hybrid model “Range-e” was designed on the basis of a Range Rover Sport Model with the cutting edge technological applications of a hybrid car. JLR has done proper justice to its reputation and commitments in bringing up this unique “green” auto for its consumers. But all the JLR fans will have to wait till 2013 for this vehicle to be launched in the market.

The power train of a JLR Range-e with its advanced features, suitable for all plug-in diesel hybrid cars, is going to create a 'Revolution on wheels' while producing avant-garde models in the near future. The model is equipped with a 245PS 3.0 liter TD V6 engine that functions in tandem with an eight speed ZF auto transmission and an electric motor of 69 KW power. The lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 14.2 KW/h power can be fully recharged through a power source of 240 Volts within four hours.

The fuel efficiency of the JLR Range-e is notable with a consumption rate of 85 miles/ gallon and lesser CO2 emission of only 89g/km keeping the environment clean and green. In spite of the low fuel consumption, a maximum system output of 339PS and an admirable speed limit of about 120mph (193kph) can be achieved during long journeys. The hybrid power train with innovative technological features can be maneuvered at ease for long drives, optimizing fuel usage and carbon emissions.

The success of JLR Range-e will largely depend upon the pricing and marketing strategies adopted by Tata Group who would have to try hard convincing JLR fans/ customers of this model's exceptional features as opposed to those offered by other JLR models.
