Lotus sees an all-electric Smart ForTwo

Lotus designing a car isn’t all that surprising, but when the automaker decides to create a design for an all-electric Smart ForTwo, that’s something. Automotive Engineer magazine asked the automaker to come up with a concept for a city car, and the sportscar maker came up with the clean, all-electric Smart lookalike.

Power comes from a 37kW electric motor which draws juice from a lithium ion battery. It can reach a top speed of 65mph, and cover 30 miles after a full charge that takes three hours and thirty minutes from a standard 13A power outlet. Dimensions for the concept are nearly the same as those of the Smar ForTwo, but this concept can seat four. It may not be all comfortable inside when four people enter through its sliding side doors, but as Lotus puts it, the concept is not meant to be the company’s city car, but merely a concept that could be developed for third-parties.
