LSR Streamliner to attempt land speed record for steam-powered vehicles

The land speed record of a steam-powered vehicle presently is 148mph, recorded by the British car Inspiration team in the year 2009. However, Chuk Williams’ U.S. Land Steam Record (USLSR) Team aims to break the record with its LSR Streamliner, forced by a heat-regenerative extraneous burning Cyclone engine.

Powering the LSR Streamliner is a stock 6-cylinder Cyclone Mark V automotive engine which could run on any fuel including bio-fuel and was designated for use in regular cars. This engine produces 100hp, a torque of 850 lb ft and ought to potentially impel the car to all over 160mph.

Engine produces far less CO2 emission than internal combustion engines. Nevertheless, as the record breaking effort will exclusively demand a run for few minutes which will eschew the need to use the water again and the engine will not have a total condensation unit.

The vehicle made for the purpose has been under construction and uses fiberglass extensively for in its making. The body of the streamliner is proposed to measure 21-ft in length, is expected to weigh 1600 pound and have a sub- .2 coefficient of drag. The U.S. Land Steam Record team promise to hit the record book at Utah’s Bonneville Salt Flats, maybe by this August.
