Mitsuoka Orochi: Not so 'Devilish' after all

Orochi means an eight-headed snake as per Japanese mythology; incidentally, it is also one of the most well known dragons in Japanese myth... This myth was the inspiring factor, which provoked the Japanese Automaker Mitsuoka to name a concept car in 2001.

The Japanese Automaker five years hence has revealed a production version of the Orochi concept car unveiled in 2001. Mitsuoka have not put a foot wrong in the pre-production process as the produced version apes the Concept car to perfection. However, the only mistake they have made is to term this sedan a supercar as the paper specifications of this car suggest otherwise.

The Orochi has a 3.3-liter V6 engine mounted behind the passengers compartment .The Orochi produces only 230 horsepower with a 5-speed automatic gear transmission. With such an average engine, this car weighs 3400 pounds app.

As it is a limited edition sedan, only 400 units will be built over a span of 4 years and each unit will cost around a whooping 89,000 US Dollars. Bookings have begun today onwards and the first deliveries will be made in January 2007.

The exterior of this car deserves a super car status, but the performance level is a problem... It is a perfect recipe for Japanese customers who prefer looks above performance but to sell it in America with a price tag of 89,000 dollars, Mitsuoka will have to look for an extinct set of hoodwinks who don't care about dimes.
