Pedal powered bus is sheer fun for children

A uniquely designed pedal bus for children is the new craze in Holland. The pedal powered bus is designed and manufactured by the Netherlands based De Café Racer on the lines of bierfiets produced by the same company. The scene is really amusing when schoolchildren ride their way to school. The concerted effort required to drive the pedal bus inculcates the sense of teamwork in them.

Thus, the ‘buscycle’ depends upon its 10 to 15 passengers who use their cumulative propelling power to push the vehicle forward. The vehicle is so designed that the steering is provided at the driver’s seat located almost in the middle of the vehicle. An experienced adult can easily fit in that seat and keep watch over his/her entire crew as the bus cruises its way to its destination. The company has designed similar kind of vehicles for different age groups. Children are really excited riding the bus together and over a period of time, a lot many buses can be seen on the roads.

With increasing running cost of conventional buses and harmful emissions emanated by these vehicles, pedal buses provide a cool, enjoyable and eco-friendly ride that also promotes community feeling if adults too switchover this mode of transport. In addition, the transport system is unique in the sense it can positively impact the efforts of environmentalists worldwide who are strenuously working to create awareness among people about the disturbed eco-system of our planet. These initiatives endorse their hard work and create sense of responsibility among masses, especially children, to reverse the eco-damage.

The concept is gaining lot of popularity worldwide and efforts are on to create similar buses with slight alterations. Recently, Casimir Sienkiewicz and his team at Caztek Engineering created a 14-passenger ‘pedal powered pub’ which will be provided to the tourists by the City Cycle Tours at St. Petersburg Florida to visit the city's historic waterfront.
