If Dr. Frankenstein were to be a Porsche fan, we trust he couldn’t have done a better job on creating a monster like this gentleman from Saudi Arabia did. This particular bashed up Porsche 996 was ready to bite the dust when it found a knight in shining who rescued the proverbial damsel in distress with a life-saving surgery.

The German classic apparently had its guts destroyed in an engine fire and was ready to be taken apart at a junk shop when this Porsche enthusiast, a LS1tech forum member who goes by the name 1dirtyZ, came forward to try and save it from a cindery fate. The makeover given to the Porsche included a revamped power train as well as a General Motors LS1 V8 engine which replaced the 996’s original 3.6-liter V6.
Horsepower wise this means an additional 30 horses under the hood with the new engine giving it 345 horsepower and 350 pounds-per-feet torque. No word yet on any other changes to the original but we suppose we’d get those soon enough. The mod has clocked in a few test runs so far with decent results but it will still take a few more tweaks before this beauty can make a highway debut.
No word on what the 996 will look like ultimately or what other additions and revisions we would see in the final outcome but we’re hoping the modder takes a cue from fellow auto enthusiasts who have gone the transplant route before and have given us spectacular results like these.
