Review: 2012 Volkswagen Jetta

Volkswagen revealed its new model of Jetta-turbocharged GLI. Soon, it will available in the market place with most differentiated and extra ordinary features ever produced by Volkswagen. Jetta has been the premium offering in the compact sedan segment and now with a low priced, five-seater version, available with gas and diesel engine, Volkswagen is ready again to face the competitors Honda Civic, Ford Focus, and Mazda3.

What does it offer?

The Jetta lined up for the market in 2012 expands its area by adding a GLI model powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder gas engine. You can see a Fendel premium stereo in car as an addition.

The Beauty

The new model offers comfort and sophistication of a Jetta in a sporty yet sleek package. It is larger and less priced than ever, but is a significantly stylish, modest, roomy, and unique model as compared to the standard Jetta.

The Beast

The car offers four different engines. The basic is an 115HP and 2.0 liter gas four-cylinder engine. A 2.5 liter gas which generates 170HP, a 2.0 L TDI clean diesel four cylinder engine which generates 140HP, and a 2.0 liter turbo four cylinder GLI engine which generates 200 HP.

In the gas engines, you can choose between five-speed manual transmission or Tiptronic six-speed automatic transmission. The TDI and GLI buyers can choose from a six-speed DSG auto by Tiptronic or six-speed manual transmission. The DSG automatic gearbox provides steering wheel mounted paddles that offers quick shift times.

The cars are equipped with many safety features like six air bags, electronic stability facility, brake assistance, traction control, four wheel anti-lock brakes, tire pressure monitoring, seatbelt pretensioners, and head restraints at all seating positions.The lineup is 100 pounds lighter than the previous models that will result in a better performance.

The GLI model produces a 207lb-ft of torque at only 1, 700 rpm. It is expected to deliver 31 mpg with manual and 32 mpg with DSG automatic. The GLI comes with four-link independent rear suspension and for wheel disc brakes. The XDS cross differential system embedded in the model prevents the spinning of wheel towards inside during cornering.

The Thrill

With 200hp 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine mated to a six speed manual transmission, the Jetta GLI hit the mark of 60 mph, under seven seconds. 2012 Volkswagen Jetta is lighter in weight to 2012 Volkswagen Jetta GLI, which means the it offers high power and performance. The vehicle is expected to deliver 31 mpg while mated to manual transmission and 32 mpg DSG automatic.

Interior

The interior of the Jetta GLI is spruced up by red stitches on the sport bucket seats and shiny accents. The flat-bottom steering wheel also comes with read stitching, aluminum accents and GLI logo. The seats are available in both cloth and V-Tex leatherette cover and features alloy paddles, door trim, shifters and dash. The vehicle includes cruise controls, center console storage, illuminated visor mirrors, floor mats, and a center armrest for backseat passengers.

The five-seater Jetta comes with 60/40 split backseat folds and 15.5 cubic foot trunk. The truck can also be opened from inside from a remote unlock switch. The standard s trim feature includes air-conditioning and power windows that has one touch up and down feature. Other features inside includes a standard 6.5 inch touch screen premium radio with iPod and Bluetooth connectivity and standard multifunction display. The interior of the car closely follow the sporty exterior of the car.

Exterior

The car insists on an angular and creased design. Rectangular headlights start the front and Audi-esque finishes the rear. The Jetta GLI sports side skirts and sport bumpers, red brake calipers, 17-inch alloy wheels and tinted taillights. Two honeycomb grilles are placed above and below the bumpers, dominating the front view. There are two horizontal lines across the top and bottom of the grille that combines with the rectangular lights, giving the GLI a distinct look. At the rear, GLI features smoked taillights, a small lip spoiler, and a special diffuser. These features set the model apart from the other versions.

Price and availability

The Jetta GLI will be available in three versions, standard GLI carrying an MSRP of $24, 265. GLI Autobahn with 18-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone climate control, Fender audio system, sunroof, and V-Tex leather seats with an MSRP of $25, 545. The price of the top model GLI Autobahn that comes with RNS-315 navigation system and push-button start is $28, 315. The Fender audio system is designed especially for Volkswagen and features Panasonic speaker technology.

The standard Jetta comes with 15-inch steel wheels and power heated side mirrors. 16 and 17-inch wheels, body colored side mirrors with indicators, chrome accents, fog-lights and moon roofs are also available as an option.
