SEAT unveils Mii city car

SEAT, the Spanish automaker since 1950, currently the wholly owned subsidiary of the German Volkswagen Group, has now revealed its new city car for the young, budget-conscious market. The new car has been named as Mii and is riding high on the new technology, handling and loads of fun appeal. SEAT Mii is the third and final offering of the VW Group’s new city car project. It takes SEAT back into the small car segment for the first time since 2005, the year production of the Arosa ended.

First impression

Touted as a perfect city car with easy to park design, Mii has the plenty of space for four people. SEAT’s new city car Mii has the similar styling with the recently announced Skoda CitiGo and not with the Volkswagen's Up, on which all the latest family of small Volkswagen group models are based. The new city car by SEAT, Mii combines the sporty Mediterranean design of SEAT with the excellent craftsmanship and a huge scope for personalization. The new city car gives you the outstanding value-for-money and low maintenance costs and makes Mii a joyride for everyday city life. Mii is young and fresh, built with finest details.

The powertrain

The SEAT Mii will be available on three trim levels and two equipment packages, Chic and Sports. Chic will have a chrome pack and Sport will boast of tinted windows and a more sport chassis set-up. SEAT Mii will be powered by a choice of new 1.0 liter three cylinder petrol engines that will deliver 59bhp or 74bhp. In the standard versions the two motors produce 105 and 108 g/km of Co2, however, SEAT Mii has the Ecomotive pack with stop-start and energy recuperation that brings down the Co2 output to a considerable 97g/km. SEAT Mii is a lightweight city car at only 854kg to make it a fuel efficient car. There is also a choice of transmissions in the city car Mii. SEAT Mii will also be available with an automated manual box as an alternative to manual transmission. There are two electric motors to make the gear shift smooth.

The exterior & Interior

The latest version of SEAT, Mii will have a new arrowhead design of grille along with the same large rear windows and the half metal, half glass bootlid similar to Skoda. The differentiating features that Mii has and its other siblings don’t have, are the alloy wheels and slender roof pillars. Mii can be clearly identified as a member of SEAT family with its typical arrow visual in the front end. The triangular lamp unit is a new form of light design at the rear end. Mii is perfectly proportionate with a width of 1.64 meters, 2.42 meters long wheelbase along with exceptionally short extension in the front and rear. It has a steep rear end that facilitates the excellent spaciousness.

The interior of Mii also has the clarity and superior functionality as the defining aspects. There is the perfect ergonomics of the instruments and the control elements of the new city car Mii that fit beautifully with the premium surfaces, which have the options of colored trim from the various equipment lines to individualize your car. The SEAT Mii offers integrated head restraints as a new feature. Mii by SEAT has the flair of a sports car, while offering superior comfort and is well suited for long distance driving as well. It has the adjustable steering column, Isofix points with top tether and side airbags for safety and driving fun. Mii has been offered with three equipment lines in the home market, two Style Packs and a wide range of optional equipments and accessories. There are two equipment lines in Spain, namely Reference and Style. Style offers central locking and power window.

What’s new?

The new city car by SEAT, Mii has some new features like the arrowhead deigned grille to be featured in all latest SEAT designs. The unique light clusters and sleek alloy wheels also differentiate the Mii from rest of its brethren on the road. Another unique feature in Mii is City Safety Assist system that can warn the driver or even apply brakes automatically in the event of danger.

What’s refreshing?

The most refreshing and special technology on the Mii has the automatic gearbox with dual electric motors to make the gear shift smooth. The SEAT Portable System is also a refreshing innovative technology in Mii, which is a removable 5-inch state-of-the-art navigation system with an on board computer and a hands-free phone. The unique features of the SEAT Portable System also includes a function called Eco-Trainer. The various features like gearshift display, average values and consumption profile along with the engine speed recommendations help the Mii driver to drive the vehicle economically. The SEAT Portable System is fully integrated into the vehicle electronics. Internet downloads can keep it updated. There are also tailor-made applications that will offer additional functions in the future.

Price and availability

The city car Mii by SEAT will appear towards the end of 2012 with the five door version. It will go into sale in Spain in November and will arrive in European showrooms from the Spring of 2012. The top models will get the portable satellite navigation system as standard. The Mii is expected to cost just under £8000 in entry-level form, like its Skoda sister car.
