The Lotus 7 is a classic that has inspired many cars, and is itself quite an enigmatic design that apparently is not bound hard by the nuances of time. The latest Lotus 7 replica hails from South Africa and has been named Millenium 7. It is the work of aeronautical engineer Chris Carstens who created it for, and with, his friend Kobus van der Walt. The duo has been working on the car for six years now, and there are plans to put more of these cars on the road.

A 2.0-l Ford Duratec engine with Ford Type 9 gearbox will be standard, though the car’s creators claim that a number of different engines can find room in the engine bay. To prove their point, they have also driven the car on Mazda RX-8’s 1.3-l Renesis rotary engine. The Millennium 7 will sell for 150,000 Rand, or about €13,500, but this DIY kit will lack differential, drive shafts, engine, gearbox, instruments, radiator, steering wheel, tires, or wheels.
