Surprised? According to a forwarded email, it is possible to unlock the car doors with a cell phone and if someone can transmit signals from your spare remote key via the phone. What you have to do is hold the cell phone at about a foot from the door. The other person has to press the 'unlock' button by holding the phone near. This trick worked for the sender of the email. Though it sounds comforting, this may not be very useful because of the latest technologies. The remote key operates with a weak signal to the other person who may be sitting inside the car. This signal is supposed to activate the door lock. The signals can be picked up or send only if both the device used are working with the same frequencies. The remote keys function with only 300-500 MHz while your cell phone works at 800 MHz or greater. Your cell phone cannot transit the signals required for unlocking a car door.
