Supersonic land vehicle to zoom at 800mph

Jaiyant CavaleJul 9 2008

Ever heard about land vehicles that travel at a supersonic speed? Well, there have been vehicles, which actually do. Brits achieved a record speed of 763mph and the North American Eagle has been striving to beat that record and bring back the trophy to the other side of the Atlantic. Gary Faules, NASA Mentor Director has been working on a land vehicle, which would reach a speed of 800mph. The power plant that they are going to use for this astonishing machine is a J-79 turbojet engine which was used in the F-4 Phanto9m. They might use a small 6,000-pound thrust liquid propellant motor to boost the speed. The car, which weighs 13,500 pounds, produces 39,000 hp. The car would cost 10 million dollars that includes developmental, engineering and non-recurring costs. If you are planning to drive this monster along the highway, you certainly can't. The car also consumes an insane amount fuel close to fifty gallons for a mile. The vehicle isn't for commercial production but a prototype for future technologies.
