The car that took the British Motor Corporation (BMC) to the next level ten years ago is set to get a swanky makeover and a relaunch, this time to draw in younger drivers. The retro-chic three-door is all set to get a few new special edition variants that are named after London landmarks, districts, boroughs, and streets with the MINI Soho Edition being up for retail starting at GBP 16,765.

The MINI will be made available in both hatchback and open top versions and although the makeover isn’t too high on the style front, its green creds hope to lure in a whole new segment of drivers. Powered by 1.6-liter Cooper engine, the Cooper D hatch comes with an exemption from London Congestion charge since it consumes just 74.3mpg gas on one combined cycle releasing just 99g/km carbon dioxide.

The cosmetic touches on the new model include black 17-inch Black Star Bullet allot wheels that are contrasted with the White Silver metallic paintjob. The paint scheme is exclusive to the UK-specific MINI Soho. The contrast streaking continues with the Bi-Xenon headlamps getting black interior reflectors while the indicators have been finished in white. A lustrous anthracite headliner, a 3-Spoke leather steering wheel and interior surfaces trimmed in ‘Piano Black’ complete the look which can best be described as understated glamour.
The MINI’s lineup has recently received the Countryman, a four-door crossover with a two-door variant also on offer, a new Coupe and also has a new Roadster in the works. Compared to the new vehicle being launched by the company, the MINI Soho Special Edition appears to be a little short on the ‘wow’ factor but then again they never claimed that it was going to be anything more than a touched up and renamed reworking of their most successful product to date.
The British firm has announced that the special edition MINI Soho will be available from July ’11 until March ’12.
