US flying humvees to join troops in Afghanistan

We’re hearing about flying cars for a long time and already introduced you with AVX design’s mock ups of a Flying Car for DARPA. But for the US troops in Afghanistan, it’s soon going to be a reality. The revolutionary vehicle which is a road going truck and converts into a helicopter with the touch of a button will join US army in Afghanistan to save troops from roadside bombs. The vehicle compete with rotor blades have a range of 280 miles on land or in the air and speeds of around 65mph on the ground and more than 150mph in the air.

Dubbed the Transformer, or TX, flying humvee prototype is around 20ft long and has four-wheels for ground operations and silent ‘creep’ mode. It is powered by JP-8 Turboshaft engine for airborne cruising and also features lightweight composite anti-blast armor, ballistic-proof windows, machineguns and cannons for defense. Apart from these, the flying humvee has a wing span of 27ft and its powerful blades allow smooth vertical take-off and safe landing in case the engine fails. The machine machine will be ready by 2015 and is priced at £132,000, which is similar to that of a Ferrari.
