With love from Netherlands: Alfa Romeo GTV Bi-Motore with two V6 Engines

The Italian car manufacturer Alfa Romeo Automobiles S.p.A has been commissioning different automotive design houses to produce concepts and production vehicle shapes for its Alfa Romeo since its inception in the year 1906. Bertone, Giorgetto Giugiaro, Italdesign, Pininfarina, Zagato, Centro Stile Alfa Romeo have been some of the famous designers who worked with the comany.

Now, Dutchman Stephan Lenior has given it a smart new look. He gave Alfa Romeo GTV Bi-Motore a two V6 Engines which yield 487HP of power. He had a very simple logic behind this decision - what do you do when the power of an engine is no longer sufficient? He chose a simple way of working, if you call it easy. He took a 3.2-liter V6 along with the sub frame and suspension bits from an Alfa Romeo 166 and placed them in the back of the car. Together with the GTV’s front-mounted 3.0-liter V6, the two engines produce a combined output of 487HP.

Stephan Lenior, the man behind Squadra Tuning, could not help feeling elated with his work and documented the exercise in quite some detail. He equipped GTV with two 5-speed gearboxes. He sourced them from a Lancia Kappa 2.4 JTD, and controlled by a single gear shifter.Another important change was made in the placing of disc brakes in the car.

Alfa Romeo GTV wears it in the rear wheel. Then the issue of compensating for the increased weight of the second powertrain was given a thought. Lenior again worked a smart way out.He replaced certain components such as the powered seats and standard alloys with lighter equivalents. Unnecessary amenities like the air-condition and sound insulation were ruthlessly done away with. Yet, GTV’s exterior look remained largely intact. It featured the only telling change through the air vents on the boot.
