Alternative Fuel Sciences (AFS) claim to have created a new type of fuel that emits only nitrogen and water vapor when combusted. This means it produces zero emissions and is environmentally friendly, and according to AFS's claims, a true replacement for gasoline. The fuel is also supposed to work with any ICE, ECE and even turbine engines, and it has an octane level higher than 130. AFS is also vying for the Automotive X-Prize, and if it is really the miracle fuel they say it is, it just might work.

They will have three cars for the competition, all running on ZeroFuel. While small cars can get past the 100 mpg mark on the fuel, larger ones have only about 60 mpg economy. The major power source for the fuel is ammonia, and there are some amounts of hydrogen as well. Urea (or carbamide) is used as the main source for the fuel, and is mixed with tap water and a “reformer” that actually converts it into a usable fuel.
