Ok so the title of this article is just a tad misleading and what we really want to tell you is how many seconds the fastest cars in the world would take to go around the world (barring any stops that they may need to make for refueling or tire/oil change). This mother of all freaky laps is calculated on the basis of the circumference of the earth at the equator which comes out to 24,901.55 miles. This compilation may be, for now at least, just a fun way for us to kill time instead of getting some real work in the office but in the not so distant future the phrase “a trip around the world” could actually be used a lot more literally and when that happens, we want to be able to say that we were the ones who thought of the concept first!
1. Bugatti Veyron Super Sport
Top speed: 267 MPH
Time for circumvent: 335,750 Sec
The current reigning champion of the quickest car league, the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport is a marvel in its own right. The car with the fastest top speed in the world can vroom past you on the highway in a mere blink maxing out at 267 miles per hour thanks to a massive 16-cylinder 8.0-litre engine that outputs 1,183 bhp. If the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport can truly sustain that top speed for a round trip around the equator, it would take the vehicle over 93.26 hours i.e., 3.88 days to complete a full circle which is less than what an road trip from the east coast of the US to the west coast takes in an average car. Food for thought, eh?
2. SSC Ultimate Aero
Top speed: 256.19 MPH
Time for circumvent: 349,918 Sec
The 11 mph difference between the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport and the SSC Ultimate Aero may not look like too much of a gap on paper but the difference between really telling when you compare the time it would take both vehicles to complete their trip round the globe. Apparently, if both the SSC Ultimate Aero and the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport set out for a spin around the earth’s circumference from the same starting point at the same time, the SSC Ultimate Aero would lag behind the Veyron SS by a staggering four hours taking around 97.19 hours or 4.04 days to finish the trip.
3. Saleen S7 Twin Turbo
Top speed: 248 MPH
Time for circumvent: 361474 Sec
The Saleen S7 Twin Turbo is a stunning machine with amazing on-road presence and incredible performance prowess. Being the third quickest car in the world by top speed, the vehicle comes with a 750 horsepower S7 Twin Turbo powerplant that would allow it to finish the trip around the world in 100.4 hours or 4.18 days.
4. Koenigsegg CCX
Top speed: 245 MPH
Time for circumvent: 365900 Sec
Swedish car manufacturer Koenigsegg really upped the ante for supercar manufacturers with their mid-engined roadster, the Koenigsegg CCX. The fourth fastest car in the world, the vehicle runs on Koenigsegg aluminum V8 that outputs 806 bhp and displaces 4700 cc power. This stunning muscle car would take 101.63 hours or 4.23 days to go around the world.
5. McLaren F1
Top speed: 242.95 MPH
Time for Circumvent: 368988 Sec
When it was first launched, the McLaren F1 brought the thrills of the formula racing to the city streets and though the model may look a little outdated to dissidents, its stunning performance prowess is still sufficient to take it around the equator in around 102.49 hours or 4.27 days.
6. Twin-Turbo Ferrari Enzo
Top speed: 238 MPH
Time for Circumvent : 376662 Sec
One of the better known supercars in the world, the Twin-Turbo Ferrari Enzo may not be the fastest car in the world, but it certainly is the most stylish. For a full-circle trip around the circumference of the earth, the Twin-Turbo Ferrari Enzo would take 104.62 hours or 4.35 days to finish the trip.
7. Pagani Zonda C12 F
Top speed: 220 MPH
Time for Circumvent: 407480 Sec
Italian newcomer to the super car market Pagani have laden their Zonda C12 F with a lot of carbon fiber trimmings which helps the vehicle easily clock in a top speed of up to 220 mph. The fashionable vehicle is propelled from its rear wheels via a V12 engine that would provide the model with enough force to help it make the trip in 113.18 hours or 4.71 days.
8. Jaguar XJ220
Top speed: 217.1 MPH
Time for Circumvent: 412923 Sec
The Legendary Jag is still one of the most coveted supercars in the world and the enviable set of wheels has single handedly redefined what a posh car meant for wealth corporate honchos. For the dumbfounding trip around the world, the Jaguar XJ220 would need just 114.70 hours or 4.77 days.
9. Lamborghini Murciélago LP 670-4 SuperVeloce
Top speed: 212 MPH
Time for Circumvent: 422856 Sec
It has to be a sad day for Italian supercar manufacturer Lamborghini when the quickest car in their garage barely makes it into a compilation of the fastest car in the world. The vehicle that has become synonymous with rap stars and the nouveau riche, the Lamborghini Murciélago LP 670-4 SuperVeloce would take an estimated 117.46 hours or 4.89 days to finish a trip around the circumference of the earth.
10. Porsche Carrera GT
Top speed: 205 MPH
Time for Circumvent: 437295 Sec
The Porsche Carrera GT may not have roots stretching back into eons like some of the more “legendary” models in this particular list, but the vehicle still remains one of the hottest selling fast cars in the world. If someone with a lot of money (and a time machine) chose to take the Porsche Carrera GT on a trip around a superhighway built (in the future) around the equator, the vehicle would take 121.47 hours or 5.06 days to finish the journey.
