"Nobody knows Indian roads better"

Father builds custom VW Camper sidecar for his son

As a kid, hanging around with your dad had to be the highpoint of your life. You learnt how to ride a bike, how to fix and make stuff and just had a very good time overall. The kicker had to be your dad making something unique only for you that you could show off to the rest of your pals. But one dad has set the benchmark for all fathers by building a sidecar modeled along the lines of a Volkswagen Camper so that his son can ride around with him as he travels in his beloved 1961 Lambretta scooter.

Jay Dyer is a scooter enthusiast and has had them for 27 years. Seeing this simple automobile as an integral part of British culture, Dyer sought to expose his son to all that the joys of riding a scooter have to offer. While most of us are accustomed to the average sidecar, this father of two wanted to try something a little different.

He decided to turn his 11-year-old son’s sidecar into a mini VW Camper and set about purchasing the skin from Belgium. He then worked on the car for seven months complete with window wipers, windows and functional headlights. The result was a work of beauty that has drawn compliments and admiring gazes from every passerby.

Dyer and his son Kaine have become something of celebrities and they’re regularly stopped by folk who want to have their pictures taken with this one-of-a-kind creation. In fact, Dyer has also been offered money from fans who’d like to get their hands on the sidecar. But he flatly refuses saying you can’t put a price on something like that.

Dyer spent about 2,500 Pounds to make this unique sidecar which can be seen in Northwood, Middlesex. Considering how much attention his project has drawn, we’re quite sure Dyer will honor us with more such creations in future.
