Ford showcases 2025 Electric Lincoln Continental Concept created by LTU students

Created by Colin Bonathan and Jeeho Cha, a design study of an electrified Lincoln Continental for the year 2025 has been presented at the 2012 Detroit Motor Show. The student team from the Lawrence Tech University developed the concept as a part of their undergraduate degree summer project in Transportation Design. Apparently, the concept was quite a hit with Ford officials who commissioned a ¼ scale model of the concept which was developed without the conventional clay modeling stage, i.e., directly from CAD data at the Ford Motor Company’s product development center.

To maximize the aerodynamic values of the 2025 Electric Lincoln Continental Concept, close attention was paid by the designers to computational fluid dynamics with respect to the design of the exterior. The vehicle was designed to incorporate “active” wheels with wide tires which were coupled with streamlined wheel housings and a grill that balances cooling requirements and aerodynamics to help the vehicle cut through the air. To ensure that the 2025 Electric Lincoln Continental Concept had enough space for the mechanicals, the electrical system as well as the occupants without cramping any of them for space, Bonathan began sketching the concept by creating the desired wheelbase before finalizing the exterior dimensions of the vehicle.

Cha then worked on the interior and bestowed it with fully reclining Alcantara-clad seats and used mahogany to fashion the floor and the console. The back seat of the 2025 Electric Lincoln Continental Concept also features a retractable central console which houses a bonsai tree. To emphasize the luxuriousness that the Lincoln brand has stood for through the years, Cha also fitted the vehicle with a sliding trunk bed, a beverage dispenser and a retractable food cooler.

And the luxury package doesn’t stop at just that. The 2025 Electric Lincoln Continental Concept also comes with suave center-opening doors and a special glass roof that not only offers passengers a great panoramic view but also projects the actual location of stars at night! The Lincoln emblem was also stamped into the glass roof which perfectly compliments the strong and fluid exteriors of the aerodynamically impressive design.

Though the exterior design of the 2025 Electric Lincoln Continental Concept is truly futuristic for the brand, and to some extent Ford vehicles themselves, the vehicle does appear to be missing the futuristic bits of in-cabin tech which have become common place in official vehicle concepts backed by big auto brands and which we would like our luxury vehicles to have in the year 2025.
