Gold plated vehicles are may not be a common sight on the streets but they don’t inspire the same kind of awe as they did a few decades ago. However, with gold prices soaring around the world owning a vehicle covered in gold might just count as a solid investment. Take this Porsche 996 Turbo Cabriolet covered in gold leaf for example. The vehicle is reported to be owned by a Russian gentleman and was first spotted doing the rounds of Saint Tropez around a year ago.
Gold covered Porsche 996 Turbo Cabriolet
According to rumors around the blogosphere, the gold laden Porsche 996 Turbo Cabriolet cost its owner something like USD 600,000 mod and Moscow-based auto shop TopCar created the vehicle in collaboration with Russian fashion designer Denis Simachev, who is incidentally very well known around Russia for his fabulous lines of menswear. Together, the unlikely pairing created the ultimately blingy accessory for a man who is not afraid to show off his suave side.
We’re not sure why the current owner of the stunning golden beauty has decided to part with it but we’re guessing it might have something to do with the huge cost of keeping a gold-leaf covered car safe and secure and away from the eyes of the taxation agencies. However, if you’re rich and reputed enough to not care about such petty issues, the golden Porsche 996 Turbo Cabriolet can be yours for just EUR 46,000 from the Russian dealership Konig Motor.
