Mach 1 touts innovative skateboard design with Telemetrics

We have seen many funky designs of skateboards since the sport's inception that dates back to decades ago. Mach1, however, is pretty interesting because of its style and professionalism along with the incorporation of a Telemetric system. That's true! With Mach1, skateboarders can measure their own performances with an on-board tracking system. It records the performance parameters like speed, acceleration, G-force, cornering loads, etc. In fact, Telemetrics allow these data to be recorded on a remote receiver that receives information through a GPS system fitted on this skateboard. The renowned skateboard producer, Wefunk, and the engineering professionals from Edgetrak have joined hands to build a prototype featuring this advanced technology. They call the combined venture as Stealth Division. Undoubtedly, Mach1 is the first skateboard to be built with an on-board Telemetric system, ever.

Inspiration

The skateboard's materials were mostly inspired from Formula-one cars, which possessed light weight materials with durability, high strength and rigidity. The idea of incorporating Telemetrics in a skateboard started When Edgetrak's founder, Leslie A Huszti, was looking for an alternate option to his fitness program. It was during that time, when he was introduced to skateboarding, which ultimately led to the creation of Mach1. Along with Wefunk's skateboard designer, Alex Luxat, Leslie built a successful prototype of Mach1, which is at the final stages of its best rendition.

Design

Mach1 features a long-board that is made from superior quality Carbon Fibers, which are currently being used in the construction of F-1 cars. In addition, this skateboard has Airex and Ash core materials that support its rigid design. The dimensions of Mach1 is 37.5 x 10 inches with an unique profile. This skateboard is designed to be flat in the middle and gradually tapers out at the edges to offer a dynamic braking experience. Coarse Corundum is used on the initial layer to offer sufficient grip for the riders. This material is chosen especially because of its appreciable hardness which can be compared to diamonds as well.

The 1.29kg skateboard features Aluminum composite alloy trucks which were produced from 180mm CNC machines. Makrolon material is used on the nose and tail sections to offer indomitable strength and impact resistance during the times of steep turns and tight curves. The presence of reversible hangers gives an option to adjust the ride height and rake as well. As mentioned earlier, the highlight of Mach1's design is the incorporation of a Telemetric system on the skateboard itself. Its GPS transfers the performance data to a receiver which is kept away from the skateboard. Stealth Division calls this system as Gnarvigator which is indeed a combination of GPS, Bluetooth technology, Solid state data logging functionality and accelerometer as well. The combined unit is mounted in the rear section just above the truck mounting, so as to keep its reception wide enough to reach its receiver.

Stealth Division has mentioned that their Telemetrics design could be installed on existing skateboards as well. They believe that Mach1 will be very much suitable for long-distance skaters and fitness geeks who will want to measure their performance parameters often. Fortunately, it won't take too long to witness these skateboards at your local parks and rinks.
