  • Mahindra Verito
The Indian automobile market is seeing some heavyweights trying to cash in on the success of the auto industry. Foreign players are entering the scene with creations designed to make heads turn and sales increase. But Indian automakers aren’t far behind either, offering customers a chance to get themselves quality cars at lesser costs. From Mahindra & Mahindra comes the Verito, a sedan that’s affordable and provides buyers with comfort, performance and enough luxury. The Verito CS is a sub 4-meter version of the earlier Verito that aims to boost the sales of the saloon segment which seems to be facing a bit of a slump. The CS is powered by a petrol and diesel engine and has almost the same features as the earlier Verito except for a smaller boot space. It boasts a classic style and though it’s less powerful than other sedans, it’s roomier and affordable.

Mahindra Verito Performance

The earlier Verito was introduced with three engine options. While the 1.6-liter petrol variant is no longer in production, the 1.4 and 1.5-liter types still are. The 1.4-liter petrol engine produces 75 hp at 5,500 revolutions and a torque of 81 lb/ft tuned to a 5-speed manual gearbox, enough to push it to speeds of 152 km/h and a pick up time of 15.8 seconds for the 0-100 kmph run. The engine comes in three trims - 1.4-liter GL, 1.4-liter GLE and 1.4-liter GLX and gives a mileage of 11.3/15.7 km/l city/highways.

The 1.5-liter diesel engine churns 65 hp at 4,000 rpm with a max torque of 118 lb/ft. This fuels it to a top speed of 146 km/h and an acceleration time of 16.5 seconds (0-100 kmph). Expect to get a mileage of 13.8/19.2 km/l city/highways.

Mahindra Verito Features

Premium models of the Verito CS will feature a glove box light, rear head restraints, single disc CD player, trunk room light, driver lumbar support, power windows and fog lamps. Air bags have been fitted in while the honeycomb structure protects front occupants from oncoming collisions. Rear passengers are further protected by a cross member. Central and remote locking features are available for the higher-end models. While all variants will get a remote fuel lip opener, none have a remote boot control which should have been a standard feature. What you will find, however, is a Driver Information System and electronic power-assisted steering wheel. Additional safety features include ABS, EBD, anti theft alarm, door ajar warning and keyless entry.

Mahindra VeritoDesign

The Verito CS is powered by the exact same engine used on the Mahindra Logan. The interior has been revamped to provide more comfort and safety to occupants while the exterior sports a horizontal grille with the brand logo riding it, body color bumpers and high mounted rear lights. What customers mustn’t expect is a new rear as the Verito’s is pretty common to other sedans.

Most Indian sedans have more to do with functionality so if you’re trying to compare the looks of the Verito with other high-end automobiles, you’ll be disappointed. However, the Verito would suit those looking for a business car with no frills perfectly.

A finer suspension system adds to the driving comfort so you can expect to drive over Indian roads quite easily. What is different is the rear of the interior that features three headrests. This gives it a smarter look and pretty much states that the Verito is a five-seater vehicle.

With a ground clearance of 172 mm, the Verito can be easily driven over Indian roads. An enhanced front grille makes the sedan looks smarter and sleeker. Smooth glass lamps nicely complement the front while body side molding and body colored bumpers and door handles lend it an understated style. Puncture resistant tubeless 185/70 R14 tires and five-spoke 14-inch wheels allow it to be driven over slightly rougher terrain. There are seven exterior body color choices: Rocky Beige, Mist Silver, Twilight Blue, Java Brown, Fiery Black, Toreador Red and Diamond White.
