The Ertiga is offered in two variants of petrol and diesel which will no doubt help keep it in the MPV competition. The petrol version runs on a K14 1.4-liter 4-cylinder engine with a 1,373cc displacement. Incidentally, the K14 is the largest in the K series of engines so you should expect the Ertiga to deliver more in the way of performance. It produces 95PS at 6,000rpm and a peak torque of 130Nm at 4,000rpm. Mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox, the Ertiga can jump from 0-100kmph in 15 seconds with a top speed of 155kmph.
As for the diesel variant, Maruti has equipped its MPV with a smaller 1.3-liter DDiS diesel engine that displaces 1,248cc. That’s enough to generate 90PS at 4,000rpm and a torque of 200Nm at 1,750rpm. The diesel variant is also paired with a 5-speed manual transmission which propels the Ertiga from standstill to 100kmph in 15.5 seconds.
The Ertiga doesn’t disappoint when it comes to safety. It features dual airbags for the front seats, 3-point seat belts for all three rows of seats, seat belt and door ajar warning, central locking, a security alarm system with door and hood sensing, anti-lock braking system with electronic brakeforce distribution and brake assist as well as an engine immobilizer.
For comfort, users can expect a relaxed ambience coupled with all the necessities you need when traveling. The cockpit sports steering-mounted audio controls for easy access to the entertainment system, power steering and windows, internally adjustable ORVMs, tiltable steering column and an air conditioner with a heater. Second and third row occupants can also enjoy the AC that flows through to keep all users feeling relaxed during balmy days.
As for the exterior, the Ertiga includes such features as body colored bumpers for a sporty look, fog lamps on the front and rear, a high-mounted stop lamp, rear window defogger and wiper, and front intermittent wiper and washer.
Aside from catering to the Indian market, the Ertiga will also be exported to Indonesia. This means that Maruti Suzuki has taken greater care with its aesthetics to meet foreign demands. The MPV is based on the Swift platform and does sport some of the designs of the large hatchback. But it also stands out with its own identity that will see it compete well against other MPVs in the market. What is immediately noticeable is the large upswept headlights that dominate the front fascia. The grille and the bonnet have been lifted from the Maruti Ritz but the overall combination gives it a look that’s its own.
To lend it a slightly muscular appearance, the Maruti Suzuki has added flared wheel arches to get just the right combination of smart and sporty. The rear, meanwhile, can be termed to be a bit bare compared to the front though it adds to the neatness of the vehicle.
Inside, the Ertiga offers occupants an airy cabin that’s done up in a beige color tone. Similar to the Swift but with a more upmarket feel, the interior sports good quality components to add to the overall smart look.

The exterior of the Ertiga closely resembles the Ritz though it manages to retain its identity. The nose, grille and bonnet, in particular, have been lifted from the Ritz though the chin is much wider and bulkier. The body colored bumpers give the Ertiga a compact and sporty look without going over-the-top, letting it keep an appearance that’s smart and neat. A ribbed roof, when viewed from the side, elongates the shape while the rear is kept minimal. 15-inch alloy wheels complete the look.

The beige colored cabin immediately makes the Ertiga look and feel even more spacious. The 60:40 split design for the second row allows occupant to scoot to the third row with relative ease. Roof-mounted AC vents and a heater ensure that all seven occupants are kept cool during the hot months and cozy during the cold season. The boot, which doesn’t provide for too much in the way of space, can be expanded to accommodate plenty of luggages if the rear seats are folded down.
For entertainment, the Ertiga offers a radio, audio system with USB connectivity, 6 speakers and a multi information display.

Remote-controlled CD and MP3 player from Nippon Kenwood, USB connectivity, 6 speakers and radio.
