Mercedes-Benz SF1 concept gives the classy ride a racy edge

OK, so when was the last time you saw a Merc and thought “Hey, now that’s a car that will help me stick it to my next door neighbor who's always showing off his Lambo”? Well, that wasn’t exactly a trick query but the answer to that ridiculous question is “never”. And the sole reason for that is though the German manufacturer is undoubtedly the world’s best manufacturer of classy, upper-class-looking cars, they have never really produced something that can compete with the edginess of a Lambo or a McLaren F1 or even any of the Ferrari Supercars. To help the Merc shed its catholic schoolgirl-esque goody-two-shoes images, 24-year-old designer Oleg Ermakov (who also goes by the pseudonym Steel Drake) has created the Mercedes-Benz SF1 concept.

The self-taught amateur designer, who doesn’t have any formal degrees in automotive design, based the Mercedes-Benz SF1 concept around the 1989 model year Mercedes since he has a strong dislike of some of the key elements found the current lot of German brand, though he does retain some characteristic features from the franchise to help create some semblance of brand identity.

The sports car, that comes complete with edgy carbon fiber trimmings, measures 1209 mm in height, 1908 mm in width and 4557 mm in length with a wheelbase spanning 2672 mm. with the “S” in its name standing for “sport”, “F” taken from the German word "scharfsinn" which means acumen, and the “1” being used to highlight the fact that the concept is truly one of its kind, the Mercedes-Benz SF1 concept is something the automakers should seriously look at as a production possibility simply because it is a true delight to behold.
