Details of the 2014 Honda Accord Plug-in Hybrid Sedan have been released. The model is powered by the brand new Earth Dreams engine as well as an electric motor. The first hybrid system to use two motors, the powertrain gets 137 horsepower of its power output from the 2.0-liter i-VTEC gas engine while the rest of the 59 hp is provided by the electric motor that has a total output of 124kW. The unique hybrid system allows the model to run in Engine Drive (all-gas), Hybrid Drive (gas-electric) and EV Drive (all-electric) modes.
The 6.7 kWh Li-Ion battery that juices the electric motor on the vehicle can be recharged fully in just three hours when plugged into a 120-volt wall outlet and in just under an hour when plugged into a 240-volt outlet. In all-electric mode, the model is expected to return a fuel economy of more than 100 MPG-e with a range of up to 15 miles. In gas-only mode too, the vehicle is expected to return one of the top fuel efficiency ratings from the EPA for vehicles in its segment.
The model comes with enhanced aerodynamic bits on the underbody, a unique front bumper, 17” forged alloy wheels and a lightweight aluminum hood. The 2014 Honda Accord Plug-In Hybrid Sedan is based on the standard Accord Sedan’s "Touring" trim and will be offered in three paint finish options.
