February 8th saw the Nissan NV200 Compact Cargo make its debut in North America at the 2012 Chicago Auto Show after over 40 countries have already witnessed the release of the van. It’s expected to do pretty well considering it’s already won a couple of awards. The not-so-large van joins the already launched Nissan NV Cargo and the still-to-debut NV passenger. According to the company, the NV200 seeks to embody a van that’s fuel efficient and optimizes cargo space.

For the North American market, the NV200’s body has been extended by 200 mm to make for additional cargo carrying capability. Overall, it measures 186.2 inches in length with a 115.2-inch wheelbase. With a payload capacity of 1,500 pounds, the NV200 can also fit in a 40×48-inch pallet. Standard mounting points on the walls and six floor-mounted hooks enable the installation of shelves and racks.
The NV200 is powered by a 16-valve 2.0 liter DOHC 4-cylinder engine which is mated to the company’s Xtronic CVT transmission. Details of power specs and pricing haven’t been released yet so we’ll just have to wait. 40/60-split rear doors, dual sliding doors, six-way adjustable driver’s seat and power windows are some of the features.
Inside, the NV200 incorporates something of a mobile office. A center console contains a laptop storage unit, file/folder storage, CD holder, dual cup holders and a pen/pencil tray. There’s an underseat storage tray toward the passenger side, battery saver, front door mounted speakers and AM/FM CD with aux input. Customers can also choose to avail of the optional navigation system, XM satellite radio, Bluetooth wireless system and Nissan Fleet Tracker, a multimedia system.
Pretty standard goodies for a van that’s not so large. Though the NV200 may not be the most powerful vehicle out there, its fuel efficiency is what we’re concerned about. No CO2 emission and mileage details have been released yet but from what we’ve heard, it’s pretty decent.
