The 2008 Summer Olympics held in Beijing China, were undoubtedly one of the most successful Olympics in the history of the international sporting events. And to create a sense of continuity from the lingering memories of the Beijing Olympics to the one that begins in London just a few weeks from now, Mini is launching a special variant of its famous Cooper called the MINI Chinese Olympic Commemorative Edition MINI COOPER. MINI of course is one of the partners of the Chinese delegation heading out to the UK for the London 2012 Olympic Games which makes it just the perfect offering to cash in on surging patriotic sentiments this Olympics season.

But that does not mean that MINI is losing its British-ness in any way and the compact hatch is bringing the best of both worlds with a black and white Union Jack adorning the rearview mirror and a golden runway that sits pretty atop the trunk lid, the roof and through the body panels at the sides. The model also comes with a commemorative chrome plated badge with the words MINI China Olympic Special Edition etched on it as well as a cool new forward grille mosaic and of course MINI’s trademark exclusive body color , the very British Racing Green, ensuring that the vehicle stands out on the street.

The model measures 3,723 long x 1,683 wide x 1,407 tall with a 40 liter tank that gives the vehicle a gross kerb weight of 1190 kg. MINI has fitted the vehicle with a 120-hp, inline-four 1.6-liter engine that has a 150 g/ km Carbon dioxide emissions output and consumes and average of 5.1 liters per 100 kilometers of travel on the highway, 8.7L/100 km in the city and 6.7L/100 km in combined conditions. The model has a maximum speed of 197 km/h and accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 10.4 seconds.

Inside, the model comes with a ‘London 1 of 2012’ inscription on the dashboard. Details about what else buyers can expect the special edition MINI’s cabin can to be laced with are yet to be divulged by the automaker though we expect Olympic-themed trimmings throughout the interior landscape and audio-visual tributes to be pre-loaded into the factory-fitted gadgetry the vehicle will be offered with. MINI sources suggest that the vehicle will be offered in exterior paint choices including White Silver, Lightning Blue, British Racing Green and Chili Red. The all white roof features the proud logo ‘London 2012 Olympic Games’. Only 2,012 copies of the limited edition vehicle will be offered for sale and the vehicle will start shipping in China in July. Prices have yet to be announced.
