Revealed: All electric 2014 Tesla Model X luxury crossover

The Electric auto-maker Tesla has unveiled the prototype of it’s all electric car - Model X. Designed by crediting features from the last release model-S, this one offers a cross between an SUV ( when you gossip of design and power) and a minivan ( when you look at the seven 7 seat capacity). Most looked at feature was falcon wings. Company said the delivery will be available in 2014 with very little changes from the prototype.

The green machine

Model-X is the youngest in the clan of the Tesla. Auto-maker Tesla has fame of giving auto industry the cars that cut the gas emissions making the world greener. The electric cars are what world look for today and seem a probable reason for the launch. Being smaller in size than its counterparts, it still offers a speed of 60 miles per hour in just 4.4 seconds. It is one of the first coolest and sporty minivan of its kind. Model X is powered by AWD variation of Model S’ drive train.

Green factor

Tesla has always been sincere towards earth when they come with designs for their models. The go-green tag is taken very seriously while designing Model-X. Like its predecessors, Model-X, uses zero units of gasoline to make a run. The car is powered by batteries and hence cuts the fuel emission completely. The makers of Tesla have offered two battery specifications- 60 KWh and 80KWh. While car will trip 233 km with lower battery model, 435 km with 80 KWh battery is announced. Lithium ion batteries are used thereby rendering the car more efficient.

The powertrain

Detailed specifications are yet to come from company’s mouth. But what is known is that car is equipped with two motors- front and back, with back supplying an additional 50% torque. This feature enables the driver to better control the traction as and when required. Motors, since are electrically controlled, have distribution of power between each of them. For normal drive, both motors share equal power but for terrains like ice, the driver has the authority to divert more torque to front motor for easier control. For speed lovers, car might beat Porsche 911 Carrera. As per the company, auto takes 4.6 seconds to reach 60 mph. The upper models have freedom of all wheel control while lower have been refrained from the technology. Model X is equipped with futuristic requirements like 17 inch touch screen providing internet access, specialized vehicle applications and drive controls. The model can be equipped with an optional panoramic roof.

The highs

Model-X is a mid way between a SUV and minivan. Styled far better than any minivan, car has three rows of seats to accommodate seven matures including the driver. Since seven people will have at least seven bags, car has two cargo spaces. Confused! This isn’t a diesel run auto. The front space supposed to have engine will carry cargo along with back space. The most noticeable feature is the ‘falcon wings’; the cars entrance.

Named after just CEO, these doors bag the credit of getting opened in the tightest of the parking spaces. Hinged at the center of the car, these are not common ‘gull wing doors’. They open up completely enabling a standing entry. Not just this, now entry in the third row is not that hustle. Second row slides forward easily and falcon wings make it easier to reach the back. No comments on the interiors!

They are amazingly beautiful with exclusive material used for the seats and dash board with panoramic glasses. Driver seat is a bucket prototype for comfortable positioning with futuristic touch screen support. The touch screen is supposed to manage all driving and entertainment affairs. The upcoming model is expected to provide even higher speeds. Best quality premium materials have been used for the interiors. It is a perfect example of utility assembled in tight space. It is high on function as well as style. The instant torque delivery by the powertrain makes this minivan extremely powerful.

The lows

Since the auto is powered by the relatively new technology, the electric car has way to go on the roads. Being bases on new technology, Model X is relatively low on the reliability quotient. What we saw was prototype, 2014 is a long way, let’s see how much remains intact!

Cost and availability

With approximately 10% less range than the model S, it is expected to cost around $60,000-$90,000 before tax credits which is similar to the model S.
