The eminent auto giant, Honda has now entered the race of making electric cars. It has recently unveiled Fit EV (electric vehicle). Introduced in Los Angeles in 2011 Auto Show, this electric Fit EV uses an economical 1.5-liter gasoline engine. Honda's standard Fit which used the gasoline power train was replaced with lithium ion batteries and an electric motor.This new electric Fit EV is introduced in competition to Ford Focus EV. It's is based on Fit hatchback and is a part of company's portfolio vehicles. This is an alternative to already existing fuel vehicles such as gasoline-electric hybrid, fuel cell-electric and natural gas-powered models. What does it offer?
It is powered by 20 kilo watts per hour lithium-ion battery and a 92 kilo watts motor which is equal to 124HP coaxial electric motor. It also features a 3-mode electric drive system. This system enables the driver to select between Econ, Normal and Sport. It helps in maximizing efficiency and improving acceleration. In sports mode the driving range improves acceleration.
The Fit EV takes three hours to get fully charged with its 32 amp onboard charger from a 240-volt outlet. Once recharged, the car provides a driving range of 123 miles or 198 kilometers in the city and 76 miles or 122 kilometers together in city and highway. The driver needs to swipe a card in front of the central screen and then connect the charger to the vehicle.
